Architect Markus Fischer described the new headquarters of the construction group Habau at its headquarters in Perg as a “sculpture made of concrete”. “The claim to be a technology leader is firmly anchored in Habau’s DNA. We are also expressing this with this building,” said CEO Hubert Wetschnig on Thursday evening at the opening ceremony, which was also held as a summer party for employees and customers.
The building, known internally as “HAB 1” (for “Habitat”), has three floors, a gross floor area of 5,200 square meters and an outdoor area of 1,800 square meters, and offers jobs for around 220 employees. A total of around 12 million euros was invested. The heart of the new corporate headquarters is the innovative “AirDeck”, which literally floats above the existing building and creates new office space without changing the historical structure. The newly built courtyard between the AirDeck and the existing building functions as the center of the building complex, which also houses the canteen. A crèche with two groups and social rooms will be completed by autumn.
For Christian Kastner’s project team, the implementation was peppered with some tricky decisions. “When you build a structure like this in front of your own colleagues, you’re on display every day,” said project manager Christian Kastner. This was also evident in the regular construction meetings. “We were able to end these meetings with consensus. But the real crunch came when choosing the colors for the chair covers in the meeting rooms. That was tough,” joked Kastner. The requirement to optimize internal processes with the new offices was well met.
The mayor of Perg, LAbg. Anton Froschauer (VP), underlined the company’s decades-long roots in the region: “For me, Habau has also stood for decades for the fact that, in all economic necessities, the performance of the employees is always the focus.” Among the several hundred guests were: Linz AG General Director Erich Haider, who once earned his first own money here as a summer intern, the bank heads Franz Gasselsberger (Oberbank) and Michaela Keplinger-Mitterlehner (Raiffeisen), Habau brand ambassador Hans Knauß and State Police Director Andreas Pilsl. The Habau brass band provided the music for the festival.
