Together with nine other people, the Viennese climbed from the Landawirseehütte (Tamsweg district in the Salzburg Lungau) to the Pietrach (2,390 m).
On the way back, the man slipped in the grass along a ridge immediately before the Krautgarscharte and fell over the steeply sloping terrain to the left and right, police said on Sunday.
Fell into a gutter
After about 200 meters, the 31-year-old remained lying lifeless in a steep gully. His companions administered first aid and alerted the mountain rescue service, but the emergency doctor who arrived could only confirm the hiker’s death.
No evidence of third-party negligence could be found.
