Racing cyclist (28) hit by motorcycle in Tyrol – seriously injured

The man was flown to the Innsbruck hospital by emergency helicopter with serious head injuries. The Dutchman had been riding with a 26-year-old compatriot, both on racing bikes. The 43-year-old German motorcyclist avoided a fall and injured his hand.

The accident occurred when the racing cyclists wanted to turn from the Tiroler Straße (B171) onto a municipal road, the police said. The motorcyclist involved, who had been traveling behind them, brought his vehicle to a stop about 100 meters further on in an adjacent field after the collision. He had been traveling with a 36-year-old man, also from Germany.

The 43-year-old was taken to Zams Hospital by ambulance. Both vehicles were badly damaged and were no longer drivable, it was said.
