Former chef now heads residential home for disabled people

Christoph Auinger at work

Christoph Auinger was actually a trained cook and confectioner. But during his community service at the Lebenshilfe residential home in Scharnstein, he became enthusiastic about working with disabled people – and stuck with it. Auinger completed the necessary specialist training alongside his job. He is currently completing his training as a qualified social worker. It’s just in time: the father of two took over the management of the Lebenshilfe residential home a few days ago.

He and his 26-strong team support 20 people with intellectual disabilities in the former Stefani Villa and an extension built in 2005. They are between 27 and over 80 years old and live in partially and fully supervised residential groups.

“Due to the higher life expectancy, we already support seven pensioners in our residential groups,” says Auinger. “This means that issues such as barrier-free living, age-appropriate leisure activities and increased care needs are becoming increasingly important for our work.”
