This year, 79 individual artists and groups from ten nations showed how diverse this genre is at the Wels Puppet Theatre Festival. With almost 3,000 guests at the 48 performances, the capacity occupancy rate on the eight festival days from June 13 to 20 was 61 percent, almost the same as last year.
The music was also played in public spaces, such as in the pedestrian zone or at the doll picnic. The “Schorgel” also stopped off in Wels on the occasion of the Bruckner year, where different organ pipes are operated by rocking and rocking together.
The Young Animation Festival (YA) presented young puppet theatre artists for the second time. Fresh, cheeky and thoughtful contributions from six nations using a wide range of techniques amazed the audience.
Next year, the International Wels Puppet Theatre Festival will take place from 13 to 20 March.
