Jakob Jantscher is getting much closer to his hometown of Graz: after a season with Kitchee in Hong Kong’s Premier League, the 35-year-old joined Voitsberg. He is one of seven new signings presented by the second division newcomers. Fabian Ehmann was most recently under contract with Bundesliga club Hartberg, Philipp Seidl comes from second division club Kapfenberg, Daniel Saurer, Daniel Schroll and Andreas Fuchs were brought in from regional league club Deutschlandsberg, and Elias Neubauer is attempting to make the jump from the Styrian regional league club to professional football.
Jantscher scored eleven goals in 30 competitive matches for Kitchee and provided nine assists. A highlight of his China engagement would have been a duel against Lionel Messi: Jantscher was in the Hong Kong Allstars team that played against Inter Miami in February. However, to the dismay of the fans in the stadium, the world champion did not play and watched from the bench – due to a groin injury.
Current champion and cup winner
Jantscher contributed six minutes to Sturm’s championship title last season: his transfer became official after the fifth round, and in the fourth he played six minutes in the victory in Lustenau (1-0). On the way to the cup title, he scored the goal in the 7-2 win in the first round against SAK Klagenfurt. Jantscher played a part in the Styrian team’s four cup victories (2010, 2018, 2023, 2024), as well as one with Salzburg (2012). He celebrated the championship with the current runner-up in 2012 and 2014.
