Yesterday, around 240 students from Bad Hall Middle School enjoyed a pleasant sunny day at the outdoor pool. It was the reward for a very special, highly successful school project: “Our students ran laps on the school sports field, looked for sponsors who donated a certain amount for each 400-meter lap they completed, and then handed the money over to the Upper Austrian Cancer Aid,” says headteacher Birgit Janda. Supervised by the two sports teachers Heike Urmann and Julia Lackinger, the sporty students ran and raised 14,859 euros.
A sum that also amazed Maria Sauer, Managing Director of Krebshilfe OÖ: “We are thrilled and very touched by the enthusiasm with which the Bad Hall Middle School is committed to helping others. It is the highest donation amount to date that has been raised in a Cancer Aid Hope Run.”
This money is used to finance the support and assistance of cancer patients and their families, as well as assistance such as prevention and early detection projects, psychological counseling, nutritional therapy, oncological aftercare and nursing. Sauer: “These measures save lives and give hope and confidence.”
MS Bad Hall is not only showing its commitment to cancer support. A special prize was awarded as part of the “Mission Cardboard” for a complete stage set made entirely of cardboard, and the students are also among the winners with their anti-nuclear project, which will be awarded next week.
