A 72-year-old car driver from the Ried district was driving along the L 1116 from Senftenbach towards Forchtenau at around 9:20 a.m. She stopped the vehicle at the unguarded railway crossing in Aurolzmünster, but still failed to see the approaching train.
Despite emergency braking and an acoustic warning signal, a collision could not be avoided. The car was thrown into the adjacent field. The driver and a passenger were injured, but were able to get out of the car on their own. After receiving first aid, both were taken to hospital.
