“The AI is poised to reshape the global economy. It can increase productivity, drive economic growth and raise incomes. But it also has the potential to eliminate jobs and widen inequality,” warned the director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, when presenting the work.

The international organization noted that “measuring readiness is a challenge, partly because the institutional requirements for integrating the AI throughout the economy are still uncertain.” “Different countries are at different stages of preparation to take advantage of the potential benefits of AI and manage risks,” he considered.

For this reason, it developed a ranking taking different parameters to define how each country is, based on the new Preparedness Index Dashboard AI, which took into account 174 economies in the world; and based on four areas: digital infrastructure, human capital and labor market policies, innovation and economic integration, and regulation.

“The charted ranking is a resource for policymakers, researchers, and the public to better assess preparedness for the AI and, most importantly, identify the actions and design the policies necessary to help ensure that the rapid advances of the AI can benefit everyone,” considered the IMF.

How ready are countries for AI?

According to the ranking of the international organization, the countries most prepared to integrate the AI in their economies in a positive way for development are USA and Netherlands, both with an index of 0.77. They follow him Finland, Estonia and Germany, with 0.76; and Sweden, New Zealand and Canada, with 0.75.

In South America, meanwhile, most of the records were between 0.4 and 0.6; and Uruguay was placed in second regional place, with an index of 0.55, only surpassed by Chili, with a 0.59. They were left behind Brazil (0.5), Peru (0.49), Colombia (0.49), Argentina (0.47), Ecuador (0.44), Paraguay (0.41), Bolivia (0.38) and Venezuela (0.27).
