Italy imposes new restrictions due to the lack of control of cases by Ómicron

The announcement of more measures and collections is expected for next Wednesday, with the extension of the obligation of the so-called vaccination super-pass for workers.

Thus, with 2022, the umpteenth update of the anti-Covid measures arrives in Italy, to face the fourth wave of the virus and the spread of Ómicron.

And since January 10, an absolute blockade has been imposed for those who are not vaccinated, who are increasingly limited.

Here is the calendar of news, in light of the latest measures and those that will be launched soon or are still under study.

January 3, half Italy in yellow

Lombardy, Piedmont, Lazio, and Sicily are added to the list of yellow zone regions, namely Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Marche, Veneto, and the autonomous provinces of Bolzano and Trento.

The gradual transition of several territories to yellow, an indication that infections are beginning to weigh on the number of hospitalizations and the use of intensive care throughout Italy, in some cases is seen as a prelude to orange, given the progressive increase in positive.

The latest decrees have effectively nullified the old differences between the white and yellow areas. In both, the mask is mandatory outdoors, but there are no movement restrictions and all activities remain open. The rules on the green certificate and on the reinforced certificate apply in general.

January 5 super green pass for workers

The decree that establishes the obligation of the Super Green Pass to all workers could reach the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, after the vaccination obligation already planned for those who work in health, safety and education. Some political forces, in particular League Y M5 (although for different reasons), they are opposed however some consensus could be reached.

January 6, stadiums and series A restart at 50% capacity

The Italian League restarts its tournament and, given the last decree, the maximum capacity of the stadiums will be allowed a maximum of 50%. For indoor activities, the maximum capacity should be 35%.

January 7, classes restart with new rules

It is being returned to the classroom in most of Italy, although in some territories the date for the restart has been postponed independently.

In kindergarten, teachers must wear the FFP2 masks, as well as in primary and secondary classes where there are students who do not have a mask because they are exempt for specific reasons.

However, the system of quarantine of parents and students could also change, following the proposals of the Regions made to the Government. The criteria for the bursting of the bubble are under study. There will be an announcement shortly.

January 10, requirement of vaccination certificate and barrier for the unvaccinated

The enhanced green certificate will be mandatory everywhere except in stores and for essential services. Therefore, the strong blockade against unvaccinated people begins, decided with the last decree.

The Super Green pass will be mandatory to get on trains, buses, subway and all other means of transport, eat in places outdoors (as well as indoors), as already planned), to enter Even to eat in places outdoors (as well as indoors), as planned, to get into hotels, go to fairs and all the places to socialize and have fun.

January 10 application of the booster after 4 months

The times of administration of the booster are shortened: it can be received from 4 months after the last injection, instead of the initial 5. But these are not mandatory times.

March 31st, state of emergency expires

The last date ends with uncertainty. It is not yet possible to know if the State of Emergency will be renewed in Italy, to which it is linked, for example, the regulations on remote work, or “smartworking”.
