The 40-year-old local woman was hiking in the Schlossalm area with her two daughters (aged 20 and 23 respectively) and two small dogs when they were attacked by the animals. Despite their injuries, the two daughters managed to get to safety from the herd.
According to a police release, the younger of the two immediately notified the emergency services. The herd only moved away when the emergency helicopter arrived. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by the emergency doctors, the 40-year-old succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The two daughters were taken to the Schwarzach hospital by rescue helicopter.
