A two-year-old had disappeared from a children’s playground at Am Himmel, a popular tourist destination in the area of Höhenstrasse and Himmelstrasse, said police spokesman Mattias Schuster. The relieving news came around midnight: the child had been tracked down with the help of private helpers and is doing well.
“The search has been going on since around 6:30 p.m. Numerous forces are deployed,” the spokesman initially reported. The two-year-old, who had visited the playground with his mother, was believed to be in an adjacent forest area.
Among other things, the emergency unit and police dog unit were deployed, and helicopters and drones were used to look out from the air. Numerous police officers from surrounding stations were also present. The emergency services were prepared to search for the child “all night long if necessary.”
After more than five hours, the all-clear was given: the police and an ever-growing number of helpers who had flocked to the recreation area following a private appeal via social media to take part in the search finally tracked down the two-year-old. The child was found safe and sound and not too far from where he disappeared, according to the operations management. The boy was handed over to his parents.
