Protests against AfD party conference in Essen: 11 police officers injured

According to reports, “disruptive actions” had taken place in the Rüttenscheid district: people had attacked emergency services and tried to break through checkpoints. “There were some acts of resistance and physical attacks on police officers.”

The police therefore also used pepper spray, batons and “immediate force,” they said. According to earlier reports, they arrested several people.

According to the organizers, 50,000 people have been marching since Saturday afternoon in front of the Grugahalle in Essen, where the AfD federal party conference is taking place. According to the police, this demonstration initially remained peaceful.
