The internal elections in Uruguay, Although they are not mandatory, they involve a large movement of people throughout the country who go to their corresponding circuits to vote. For this reason, transportation will operate differently this Sunday, in addition to the fact that there will be detours and road closures to guarantee the correct transfer of the voting boxes.
In total, there are 2,761,513 Uruguayans enabled to vote in these elections, so even if the 2019 turnout is repeated (40%), 1,104,605 people will leave their homes throughout the day to cast their vote. How will buses and taxis work?
The urban buses The buses will operate on Sunday with 100% of the fleet that they would normally operate on a working day, during voting hours. That is, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., all the units will make their usual route —with exceptions due to the cuts and detours that will take place that day— to guarantee better transportation on a day that is also expected to have very low temperatures.
After 8pm, services will begin to decrease, although special attention will be paid to areas where there are election celebrations.
For his part, the suburban transport It will operate as it does on Saturdays, with 65% of the units of a business day. Likewise, the departmental service in Canelones will operate with 100% of its capacity.

Road cuts and detours in Montevideo
The Municipality of Montevideo (IM) reported that on Sunday there will be street closures and detours at different points of the Center, the Old City and the Watery, due to the transfer of ballot boxes and the concentration in party headquarters for the planned celebrations.
In the middle
Due to concentrations in party headquarters and campaign commandsthe IM indicated that traffic cuts will be recorded from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., on 18 de Julio towards the Center, corner Martín C Martínez; and on 18 de Julio between Carlos Roxlo and Minas.
- The lines to Ciudad Vieja via 8 de Octubre Avenue will modify their route from 18 de Julio Avenue to Eduardo Acevedo; then they will return to their usual route.
- Lines CE1, D8, 180, 188 and 330 will be diverted from 18 de Julio Avenue to Eduardo Acevedo; then they will return to their regular route.
- The alternative route of line 121 will go from 18 de Julio Avenue to Eduardo Acevedo; then they will return to their usual route.
- Lines 21, 64, 143, 187 and 494 will run from Juan Paullier to Eduardo Acevedo; they will then return to their regular route.
- The eliminated stops will be: 18 de Julio Avenue corner Martin C. Martinez; July 18 corner Pablo de Maria, and July 18 corner Arenal Grande.
- The outward lines will deviate on July 18 to Minas; then they will return to their usual route. In addition, the stops at 18 de Julio corner Barrios Amorin and 18 de Julio corner Vázquez will be eliminated.
From 12 to 10 p.m., the Colonia intersection between Barrios Amorín and Ejido will also be closed; and Germán Barbato streets between Mercedes and Colonia, and Ejido between 18 de Julio and Colonia.
- Lines 79, 121, 142, 143, 151, 175, 396, 494, 505 and 582 will modify their path and will go through Colonia to Ejido; then they will return to their usual route.
- The stops at Colonia and Roxlo; Colonia and Tacuarembó; Colonia and Barrios Amorín, and Colonia and Germán Barbato will be eliminated. The temporary stops will be the official stops on 18 de Julio.
In Old City
From 5 a.m. on Sunday until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 1, the following streets in the Old City will be closed for the transfer of the ballot boxes:
- Ituzaingo, from Rincon to Cerrito.
- May 25, from Bartolomé Mitre to Treinta y Tres.
- Juan Carlos Gomez, from Cerrito to Rincon.
For this reason, lines CE1 and DE1 will detour through 25 de Mayo, Juncal, Cerrito, and Lindolfo Cuesta on their route. The stops will be eliminated on May 25 and the provisional stops will be the official stops on Cerrito Street.
In La Aguada and Palermo
Also, due to the transfer of the ballot boxes, General Aguilar Street, between Agraciada and Martín García, will be closed. This will only be from 6 p.m. on Sunday until 2 p.m. on Monday, and lines 191 (Pta. Carretas) and 404 (Juana de América) will deviate as follows: Av. Agraciada – JMª. Moon – Zapican.
The IM also reported on a detour for transport on Gonzalo Ramírez Avenue, between Minas and Magallanes: transport lines 17, 149, 300, 407 and 522 will deviate via Gaboto, San Salvador and Lorenzo Carnelli to their usual routes.
