Since July 1, there has also been funding for replacing a renewable heating system. The replacement of heat pumps, wood, wood chip or pellet heating systems that are at least 15 years old is supported, provided that this is associated with an increase in final energy efficiency.

With a heat pump, this means switching to a more efficient version. With wood heating systems, the switch to district heating or, if this is not possible, to a heat pump or a more efficient wood heating system is subsidized. A maximum of 30 percent of the eligible investment costs or a maximum of 5,000 euros per heating system replacement is subsidized. A combination with state subsidies is possible. If a solar system is installed, there is a 2,500 euro solar bonus.

Christoph Pfemeter, Managing Director of the Austrian Biomass Association, emphasized that fuel savings with modern wood heating systems would be up to 30 percent. Fine dust emissions are barely measurable. Richard Freimüller, President of Wärmepumpe Austria, welcomed the fact that people who had invested in climate-friendly forms of heating without subsidies would now also receive subsidies.
