There was loud cheering, excitement and suffering for the team: the large and small organizers of public viewings in Upper Austria were pleased with the large turnout on Tuesday evening. Thousands of Austrian and Turkish fans gathered in front of the huge screens in public places and in bars to keep their fingers crossed for their team in the European Championship round of 16. The OÖN mingled with the cheerful red and white crowds – a glimpse into the mood in the country.

Around 3,000 fans were at the big public viewing on Wels town square expected. At around 7:30 p.m., both the Austrian and Turkish fan sectors in front of the town hall were filling up noticeably:
