Cargo ship ran aground on the Danube

According to Joachim Schmutz from the Neustadtl fire brigade, 18 helpers were on duty with underwater pumps on Monday. The freighter loaded with around 600 tons of steel has been in place for several days and has filled with water near the shore. However, shipping traffic on the Danube is not affected.

The work of the helpers was canceled for the time being, according to the head of operations, on Monday afternoon, but should continue on (tomorrow) Tuesday. Then even larger pumps than those previously used could come into play. “We’ll see if the ship rises,” announced the chief of operations. In order to be able to be transported away, the watercraft must be lifted upwards by around 80 centimeters.

In principle, it is planned to move the ship on to Linz. There it is to be repaired in a shipyard.
