To mark its 60th anniversary, the Hague Local History Museum in Starhemberg Castle is showing an exhibition that is particularly suitable as a holiday outing for families: Under the title “The big world in miniature”, miniatures of trains, airplanes and boats as well as model railways are on display.
Brigitte Zurucker-Burda, chairwoman of the Pramtal Museumsstraße, played a leading role in the exhibition concept. The numerous exhibits are provided by model building clubs from all over Upper Austria. “We didn’t have to spend much time persuading the clubs to take part in the exhibition. It’s a great collaboration,” says the Peuerbach resident.
Busy crowds in the museum
The main exhibits are model airplanes, ships and trains. “All models are fully functional,” says Johann Wiesinger from the museum association, who regularly guides visitors through the museum. Since the opening, the exhibition has enjoyed great popularity, says the former elementary school principal von Haag: “The children are enthusiastic. The model train from the Grieskirchen model building club, which they can drive themselves, is particularly popular.”
One thing cannot be missing from an exhibition of trains in Wels: the Ried model railway club is exhibiting a model of the “Haager Lies” at Bachmanning station. Wiesinger has supplemented it with photos from the glory days of the now-discontinued train service, which invite you to reminisce.
This year’s exhibition is a perfect addition to the miniature rooms that have their permanent home in Starhemberg Castle. Just in time for the anniversary, Zurucker-Burda, which produces the works of art on a scale of 1:12, has produced its 60th creation: a dirndl tailor’s shop. The miniatures have become very popular: for an exhibition on Anton Bruckner and his teacher Leopold von Zenetti, the Museum Lauriacum in Enns has even loaned four pieces showing scenes from the Biedermeier period.
The exhibition is open on Sundays and public holidays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guided tours are available at any time upon request. Further information is available on the website.
