Causa Ott: Public prosecutor’s office investigates dubious payment flows

Data leak in the BVT

As the online medium zackzack.at reported on Thursday, the Vienna public prosecutor’s office is said to be investigating a dubious flow of payments from the corporate network of former Wirecard manager Jan Marsalek, which was possibly intended for “Austrian spies”.

Specifically, it concerns almost 500,000 euros that a trustee and Marsalek confidant who was employed by Wirecard in Asia at the time transferred from Singapore to a company called “RISC Ltd” with an unknown headquarters in September 2017. During the cross-border Wirecard investigations, documents were seized in Luxembourg that documented this transfer. According to zackzack.at, a written note on the money transfer was also found. According to this, the half a million was supposedly earmarked for “compensation for Austrian spies”.

No comment on ongoing investigations

The public prosecutor’s office did not comment on this. “We cannot comment on ongoing investigations,” said agency spokeswoman Nina Bussek. The Vienna public prosecutor’s office now wants to use a European investigation order to clarify what is behind this payment. Among other things, it is unclear who is behind “RISC Ltd.” The “AG Fama” – an investigation group set up in the Interior Ministry to investigate the Wirecard and BVT affairs – is said to suspect that this could be the Russian domestic secret service FSB, writes zackzack.at, citing a report from June.
