“There is no place for violence against girls and women!” This message adorns the park benches designed by the 4A class of the Ried middle school in Riedmark. At their future locations – one near the school, the other at the edge of town on the main road towards Mauthausen – this statement is intended to make people think.
In addition to using the spray, the students also dealt with the topic of intimate partner violence in a four-hour workshop. “We discussed the topic in detail and agreed that violence against women and girls is something we do not want to tolerate,” says class representative Florian Schatz.
Project coordinator Elisabeth Glawitsch has already taken the workshop to several schools in the district. The response to it was very positive, and not just in Ried: “Thank God, many schoolchildren have not yet had direct contact with violence, but they are taking the content with them for the future. They all benefit from the methods of civil courage. They also feel heard and are happy to talk about this topic for once.”
The market town of Ried also supported the project. Mayor Christian Tauschek (SP): “We in the local council were unanimous in our decision to take on this issue. My big thanks go to the 4A class and the teaching team for implementing this so brilliantly.
