During his visit to the Asian giant, Mattos considered that “finding solutions for the effects of climate change It must be a State policy,” after which he highlighted the progress between the technical teams of his portfolio and those of the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources.
The leader highlighted “the importance of joint work for the management of water resources”, while the vice minister of the Asian organization, Zhu Chengqing, He detailed efforts to address climate change, recalling that there are regions that suffered six months of flooding after six months of drought.
“These challenges have led the Asian nation to develop specific regulations and a manual of use and recyclability of water resources,” he said, something that could be useful for Uruguay.

Technical cooperation between both governments would occur as part of the memorandum of understanding recently signed, with the aim of developing a robust project for the management of water resources, within the framework of the growing relationship with the country, following the signing of the strategic partnership last year.
Among the axes to be discussed, Mattos proposed that the situation of the Merín Lagoon Basin as a case study at the upcoming “Seminar on Water Resources Management” in China, something that was welcomed by local authorities.
Meanwhile, the second joint committee of the year was scheduled for the third quarter and the intention is to move forward in exploring new joint projects, while the official highlighted “the rapprochement between both ministries.”
Mattos was accompanied by the Director of International Affairs, Adriana Lupinacci; and the ambassador to China, Fernando Lugris.
