Colorful, loud and peaceful: That was Linzpride 2024

The LGBTIQ* community (LGBTIQ stands for “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer”) takes to the streets together at so-called Pride Parades. The aim is to set an example for tolerance, acceptance and equality.

While the organizers spoke of 12,000 participants, according to police figures, there were around 10,000 people who followed the call of the Homosexual Initiative (HOSI) Linz and took to the streets. “The parade was completely peaceful. A dream for the police,” said Friedrich Stadlmayr from the Linz State Police Command to the OÖN. The thousands of visitors celebrated in great spirits throughout the afternoon. It started at 12 noon in the Volkgarten. At around 5 p.m. the mass event slowly broke up – just in time. A short time later, a violent storm front moved over Linz.

Originally, the Pride was supposed to start on June 29th. But because the Lido Sounds was also taking place at the Urfahraner fairground, the Pride was moved to July 6th. The city of Linz sent a sign of support by flying rainbow flags on town halls and community buildings.

“Pride City” at OK Platz

According to the organizers, the “Pride City” at OK Platz and the Ursulinenhof was also new. “The offer was very well received,” says Michael Müller, spokesman for the Homosexual Initiative Linz. Twelve organizations and institutions from the “queer spectrum” presented their activities and concerns to a broad audience. At the same time, short films by local queer artists were shown in the Moviemento.

At the “Pride Night” DJ Caruso and Metamorkid created a good atmosphere in the sold-out house.
