The building on Fallmerayerstrasse was “pelted with paint bags” over a large area, the police confirmed in a press release. The unknown perpetrators also spray-painted lettering. Cars parked in front of the building were also damaged. The People’s Party headquarters was last the target of a paint attack in March.
The facade was recently repainted. The graffiti was apparently again aimed at denouncing murders of women in Austria. It was unclear whether the same perpetrators were involved. The investigation was ongoing.
“It can not go on like this”
The attack on the ÖVP headquarters was strongly condemned by Tyrol’s FPÖ chairman Markus Abwerzger. The Tyrolean FPÖ can tell you all about it, as its facilities in Innsbruck are regularly defaced by vandals at night, Abwerzger said, referring to previous incidents. And the regional party leader came up with a political demand: ÖVP Interior Minister Gerhard Karner must finally ensure better protection of political party facilities by the police: “This cannot continue.”
