The largest increase in the cumulative half-year was in the category of utility vehicles, with a rise of 21.9%, totaling 9,754 units. Sales of passenger cars grew 4.7%, totaling 11,915 units.

The increase in sales can be explained by the fact that the prices of 0 km vehicles are denominated in dollars, a currency that has lost real value in the last year. In addition, there has been an increase in the real wagewhich increases the purchasing power of individuals and families and their willingness to buy this type of durable goods.
The sharp increase in credit for car purchases
There is also a strong increase in credit for the purchase of cars at the banking system level. According to data from the BCU, credit to families for the purchase of vehicles rose by a staggering 61% in the last year, measured in dollars. It went from 525 to 848 million dollars.
Finally, it should be remembered that there are tax exemption mechanisms for the purchase of vehicles, especially utility vehicles; in such a way that – although the general sale of 0km units increases – the collection of the tax IMESI automotive (which applies mainly to passenger cars) shows a drop. According to the cumulative figure up to April (latest available data), this tax had a drop in its collection of almost 8% in current pesos (-7% in dollars).
