According to the police, the man from the Gmunden district had been cleaning stone slabs that were under water at his own lake access. The man lost his footing for reasons that are still unclear. His wife was only in the house for a short time and did not see the incident. When she came out of the house again and could no longer see her husband, she called the water rescue service and reported him missing.

Two boats from the water rescue service (ÖWR), the Gmunden police boat and the Traunkirchen fire department were involved in the immediate search from the water. A lifeguard from the ÖWR Gmunden emergency boat was able to locate the man shortly afterwards in around 5 meters of water and bring him to the shore, where the boat crew immediately began resuscitation measures. The emergency doctor who was alerted could only confirm the man’s death.
