It was quiet at the state fire brigade command until 6 p.m. “The calm before the storm,” one might say. After the first storm report came in from Eggelsberg in the Braunau district at 5:57 p.m., things happened in quick succession. The fire brigades in the Innviertel were called out every minute. “Tree over the road,” “roof securing,” “building flooded” were the reasons for the alarm. The priority was to clear traffic routes and pump out flooded cellars.

Within an hour, the emergency services were called out more than 60 times – and the number is rising sharply. In the early evening, the districts of Braunau and Ried im Innkreis were mainly affected. Further operations in the central area and in the Upper Mühlviertel followed (as of 7:45 p.m.). The server of the state warning center, which lists the ongoing fire service operations, was temporarily unavailable in the evening. In Linz, the storms were expected to arrive around 8 p.m., but the Salzkammergut was largely spared until the evening.
