The employees have volunteered. You have been in self-isolation since the end of last week and have been PCR-tested daily for ten days since then. On Friday they will move into the Simmering power plant and three waste incineration plants, initially for four weeks. More about this in the video:

The isolation is similar to that in March 2020, when 50 employees were also isolated in the facilities at the beginning of the pandemic. Unlike the first time, the employees no longer cook themselves but receive the food from outside without contact. There are also adjustments for sleeping. So there are now separate bedrooms for snorers and non-snorers, as company spokeswoman Lisa Grohs said.
Table football and dice poker
The isolated employees, all men, are again provided with newspapers, books and games so that they don’t get bored outside of their working hours. The classics table football, dice poker and puzzles have proven themselves, this time expanded with new 3D puzzles. New games are also available for the Playstation, as Grohs explains. There is also fitness equipment. The equipment is slightly different depending on the location. In addition to the Simmering power plant, employees are also quartered in the Spittelau, Flötzersteig and Simmeringer Haide waste processing plants.

Isolation has a serious background. Experts expect that the upcoming Omikron wave could have a major impact on companies with critical infrastructure because a relevant part of the workforce is sick or in quarantine at the same time. The aim of Wien Energie with the isolation is “to be able to secure the energy supply of Vienna under all circumstances”. The Simmering power plant can supply almost the entire federal capital with electricity. The electricity is generated from biomass, gas and oil.
