Lacalle Pou questioned the false discussion between market or more State

President Luis Lacalle Pou He questioned “the false discussion between State yes or State no and between market or more State”, when inaugurating a series of works linked to improving the system of electric power, with an investment of more than 57 million dollars.

It is not the first time that Lacalle Pou delves into similar concepts. He had already done so during the annual dinner of the Freedom Foundation in Argentina, where, in the presence of his peer Javier Milei He defended the need for “a strong State.”

By formalizing the entry of 153 households from the El Dorado neighborhood, in Cannelloni, Regarding the Social Inclusion Plan, with an investment of 8 million pesos, he stated: “The State must be here to generate rights and for the residents to proudly assume their obligations.”

“To be fair, you have to know, you have to understand, you have to want, because nobody changes what they don’t want. If the neighborhood is good, I can be better. There is no way that if the neighborhood is bad, I can be well,” the president added.

In this sense, he highlighted works of this type by pointing out that “they allow us to dimension and value that the public enterprises, The State and the taxpayers have the person as their ultimate goal.”

The impact of the works on the electrical power system

In the case of Canelones, the works included the installation of seven kilometers of nets and 50 posts, forming part of the UTE Social Inclusion Plan, which aims to reach 12,000 regularized homes in 2024.

Later, Lacalle Pou did the same in Cardal, Florida, where a 55-kilometer substation and extra-high voltage line was inaugurated, connecting the power generation centers Big Falls, Black River and Tiger Point, to supply the south of the country.

The event was attended by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio; the president of UTE, Silvia Emaldi; and the mayor of Florida, Guillermo Lopez; It was reported that work began in 2021 and generated some 400 jobs, with an investment of 57 million dollars.

UTE stressed that this is “a key milestone”

“This is a key milestone to improve the reliability of the transmission system,” said Emaldi, highlighting that “it strengthens it and more reliably links the large generation centers with the southern zone, which is more energy consumption from the country”.

The hierarch also considered that “Uruguay continues betting on the sustainability”, highlighting that “the energy transition will require the inclusion of new renewable sources, but also continue to strengthen transmission networks to reach all parts of the country.”

Facio said that “adding robustness to the system is essential for the population, for developing businesses and for large industries to come and settle in the country.”
