“We are rapidly approaching the next big anniversary. The construction industry is not doing so well this year. We have therefore scaled back some sponsorships because it is necessary in a situation like this. But not at the Josko running meeting. We are based in Andorf and want to continue to promote this event, which is so important in the region,” said Johann Scheuringer, managing director of Josko, which has locations in Kopfing and Andorf. By the big anniversary, Scheuringer meant the 20th edition of the international athletics meeting, which is expected to take place in two years. The starting field at the 18th meeting on Saturday, August 17th is also more than impressive. It traditionally starts with the Sparefroh children’s runs, which are supported by Sparkasse OÖ. “We want to support children and young people. This year, each participant will receive a sustainable wooden medal with the inscription ‘Hero of the day’,” says Sparkasse regional director Martin Doblinger.
Weißhaidinger is coming
Although the meeting takes place one week after the end of the Summer Olympics in Paris, the Austrian top stars have already confirmed their attendance. First and foremost local hero Lukas Weißhaidinger, who is currently preparing intensively for the Olympic Games, where he is one of the medal contenders due to his recent strong performances. “Lukas Weißhaidinger is in the form of his life. He recently demonstrated this impressively with second place at the European Championships in Rome,” says Klaus Angerer, organizer of the Josko running meeting.
In all probability, a current European champion, javelin thrower Victoria Hudson, will come to Andorf. The 28-year-old won gold in Rome. “I believe that both Weißhaidinger and Hudson have a very good chance of winning an Olympic medal,” says Angerer.
300 athletes from 15 countries
A total of around 300 athletes from around 15 countries will compete in the international athletics meeting with free entry. Among them is javelin thrower Patricia Madl from Diersbach from IGLA long life. After a long injury break, Madl is on her way back. Most recently, the 25-year-old took second place behind Hudson at the national championships. “Victoria Hudson has also had to go through a lot in her career. She is a role model for me. My goal is to throw 60 meters,” says Madl. Her big goal is to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in September 2025.
With runner Susanne Gogl-Walli, another Olympic participant will most likely start in Andorf.
