Microsleep: Car driver collided with group of motorcyclists in Bad Ischl

A 30-year-old car driver from the Czech Republic was driving on the B145, Salzkammergutstraße, towards Bad Ischl at around 3:10 p.m. At the same time, a group of motorcyclists were driving in the opposite direction.

In the municipality of Bad Ischl, the man drove into the oncoming lane – he said he had fallen asleep for a second. He collided with the motorcycle of a 52-year-old woman from the Kufstein district. Her husband, who was riding next to her and leading the group of motorcycle riders, had to watch in the rearview mirror as his wife was hit by the car and thrown through the air. A 55-year-old motorcyclist from the Schwaz district who was following behind fell when she drove into the 52-year-old’s motorcycle.

The 52-year-old was seriously injured and flown to the Kepler University Hospital by rescue helicopter. The 55-year-old also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Salzkammergut Hospital in Bad Ischl.

The Salzkammergut road was completely closed in the area of ​​the accident site for almost two hours.
