Complaint about record prices for Taylor Swift concert in Milan

The Italian consumer protection association Codacons has filed a complaint with the Milan public prosecutor’s office and the antitrust authority, demanding that price speculation surrounding the two concerts by US superstar Taylor Swift on Saturday and Sunday at Milan’s San Siro stadium be punished. According to the association, tickets for the Milan concerts were offered for more than 13,000 euros on some websites.

The consumer protection association said the public prosecutor’s office should investigate the crime of market manipulation, which could mean fines of 5,000 to 500,000 euros, Codacons wrote in the complaint. The association called for the closure of the websites and platforms that offer tickets at inflated prices.

65,000 enthusiastic fans attended the Taylor Swift concert in the northern Italian economic metropolis on Saturday evening. The two Milan concerts are part of the US pop queen’s “Eras” world tour, which is also expected in Vienna in just under a month. Several celebrities, including Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, the creative director of the luxury brand Gucci, Sabato De Sarno, and Taylor Swift’s partner, football superstar Travis Kelce, took part in the event in Milan.

Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour, which began in the US in March 2023, became the first tour ever to gross more than a billion dollars (927 million euros) at the end of last year. This amount is expected to double by the end of the tour in Canada in December. At the beginning of August, the musician will be in Vienna, where she has sold out the Ernst Happel Stadium three times.
