The shooter then killed himself, local authorities said. The incident occurred in Espinasse-Vozelle, a town with around 1,000 inhabitants just 60 kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand.
According to local prosecutor Jérôme Piques, the attacker was not one of the party guests but lived right next door. He approached the neighboring house late on Saturday and fired his weapon. According to authorities, he had previously shot at moving cars.
According to Piques, the victims included the 20-year-old host and his father. The four injured people were taken to hospital, he said. However, their injuries were not life-threatening. 15 other guests are receiving psychological care.
Authorities said police are still trying to piece together the “how and why” of the attack. The shooter is in his early 50s and apparently has no previous convictions, police said.
