Simon Seiberl and Florian Haderer (Peugeot 208 Rally4) were able to fulfill their big dream of becoming national champions at the Weiz Rally this weekend. The Windhaag native in the E&S Motorsport team originally finished the rally in second place. However, during the technical inspection later in the evening, his competitor Martin Kysucky was disqualified. Seiberl not only inherited the rally victory, but can no longer be pushed from the top of the overall ranking of two-wheeled vehicles even before the season finale at the OBM Bucklige Welt Rally (4th/5th October).
“Our Peugeot 208 from E&S was perfectly positioned from the first special stage,” said Seiberl after the rally. With the second and third best special stage times, the two were quickly able to establish themselves in second place overall on the notoriously slippery stages. Competitor Raphael Dirnberger was out of the race early on due to a technical problem, which is why Seiberl’s toughest opponents now came from Slovakia and Spain. The team would have been completely satisfied with second place too. Seiberl describes the delayed announcement of the winner as follows: “We were standing in the parking lot and I was just about to drive home when Florian said that we had won.”
The 21-year-old is extremely happy about his title: “Three or four years ago, I had never seen the inside of a rally car and had only driven one virtually in a rally simulator – now I am the national rally champion, it is completely surreal.” Co-pilot Florian Haderer (27 years old, from Schwertberg) can also be happy about the national co-driver title. “Neither of us are professionals, but I think we managed it quite well. I’m certainly not always easy – but he can handle it. We are a good match, so to speak.”
Even a heavy storm on Friday evening in Weiz could not prevent the great success. Like many other teams in the service park, E&S Motorsport also reported some property damage. “There were also a few people from other teams who were injured. I wish them a speedy recovery,” said Seiberl.
Winning the championship is also a sensation for E&S Motorsport. Since the January Rally 2024, the Freistadt-based mobility service provider E&S Motors has been competing in rally and rallycross with its own motorsport team. The cars used are primarily from the Stellantis fleet, such as the Citroën C3 Rally2, the Opel Corsa Rally4 or the Peugeot 208 Rally4. The next race in Austria is just a few weeks away. On August 10, Manuel Wurm, among others, will be behind the wheel of an Opel Corsa Rally4 at the Perger Mühlstein Rally.
