The man allegedly used a rifle and fired from a rooftop near the rally of the former president and US presidential candidate.
The FBI identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 years old and resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the suspect in Saturday’s attempted assassination of former US president, Donald Trump, at an event during his election campaign.

The suspect was shot dead by the Secret Service sseconds after he allegedly fired toward a stage where Trump was speaking in Butler, Pennsylvania. The FBI said it was working to determine a motive for the attack, which left one attendee dead and two other spectators seriously injured.


State voter records show Crooks was registered as a Republican. The Nov. 5 election would have been the first time Crooks would have been eligible to vote in a presidential election. He lived about an hour away from the shooting in Butler.
Meanwhile, Crooks’ father, Matthew Crooks, The 53-year-old told CNN he was trying to figure out what happened and would wait until he spoke to law enforcement before commenting on his son.
Law enforcement officials said Saturday that Crooks did not bring any identification to the scene of the shooting and had to be identified using other methods. “We’re looking at photographs right now and we’re trying to analyze his DNA and get biometric confirmation,” Crooks said. USA Today reported that dozens of law enforcement vehicles were parked outside a residence listed at Crooks’ voter registration address. Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene and a bomb squad was at the residence, he added.
