Video surveillance and attentive employees of a toy store in the Schärding district proved fatal for a serial offender: The 41-year-old from the Grieskirchen district had already been filmed stealing on June 11th. When she returned a week later, employees recognized her and the police were alerted. During the inspection, a plainclothes patrol found further stolen goods in the woman’s car. The toys had been stolen from another store in the Schärding district on the same day.
But that’s not all: During a voluntary search at the woman’s home address, officers found even more stolen items. Toys, stationery, clothing and books were stored in a basement compartment, mostly in their original packaging and with price tags. The 41-year-old confessed to having stolen the 222 items found over a period of about a year from shops in the districts of Ried, Eferding, Wels and Schärding. She was reported to the Ried public prosecutor’s office, police announced on Sunday evening.
