Ukraine has become an ATM for the European Union due to the flow of labor migrants from the country. Ukrainian economist Yuriy Atamanyuk said this on Tuesday, January 4.
He recalled the statement by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, that the EU is not a charitable organization or an ATM.
“I will tell you who is an ATM for whom. And I will prove that Ukraine is an ATM for Europe, ”Atamanyuk said on the air of the Nash TV channel.
The economist noted that seven million labor migrants from Ukraine are now working in the European Union. They produce twice as much GDP as in Ukraine. Atamanyuk believes that such a situation is beneficial for the Europeans, but not for Ukraine.
The economist suggested that in the future the Ukrainian market will be flooded with European goods, and this may contribute to the destruction of the local industry.
Earlier, the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin said that Ukrainian politics is a “fierce trash”. The diplomat believes that the goal of Ukrainian politicians is access to funds and “reproducing themselves in politics.”
On December 1, it became known that Ukraine began negotiations with the European Commission (EC) on a new package of financial assistance worth more than € 1.2 billion.
In October, the EC decided to provide Ukraine with a tranche of € 600 million as part of a macro-financial assistance program. Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the Economic Affairs Commission, noted that the decision on the tranche is evidence of the EU’s support for the reform program in Ukraine.
