Windischgarsten breathes the scent of the Champions League

The 2024 European Football Championship is history. But football fans in the region don’t have to wait long for the next sporting treat. Above all, they don’t have to travel far. Yesterday, AS Monaco checked into the Dilly Resort in Windischgarsten with successful coach Adi Hütter. Like the Austrian national team before the European Championship, the star footballers from the principality are preparing for the upcoming tasks at a training camp. The total market value of the team from Monaco is 377 million euros.

In the case of AS Monaco, the tasks are Ligue 1 and the Champions League. The highlight of the week-long camp will be a friendly match on Saturday against Austrian champions Sturm Graz, who also have a guaranteed ticket for this year’s Champions League season. The match will take place in the Dana Arena in Windischgarsten and starts on Saturday at 6 p.m.

“The visitors can certainly look forward to a high-class game. The teams will be rehearsing for the first time in a real-life situation just under a month before the start of the championship,” says host Horst Dilly, who is convinced of the qualities of both teams. The Monegasque squad includes well-known players such as the Swiss Breel Embolo, Denis Zakaria and star striker Folarin Balogun, who has a market value of 30 million euros.

From Strasbourg to Nice

AS Monaco is by no means the first club to complete its preseason training in the Garstner Valley this summer. The Racing Strasbourg team only left on Sunday. The Alsatians were at the Dilly Resort for the first time. “They were extremely satisfied with the conditions and the training week,” says Dilly. Previously, 1860 Munich, WAC, the Romanian club Cluj and the Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava were guests. After the departure of the Monegasques, OGC Nice and the Serie A promoted team Como with the Austrian Matthias Braunöder will also come to the Dilly Resort, where they will find perfect conditions with two in-house training pitches.
