BROU positively evaluated the performance of the debt restructuring program

From the Republic Bank (BROU) They positively evaluated the performance of the Voluntary Restructuring Programme launched last week, where more than 22,000 people have already accessed it and more than 170,000 queries have been received.

“The evaluation is very good,” said the general manager of BROU, Mariela Espino, who assured that the solution attempts to “resolve the situation of families and individuals due to all the impacts that the pandemic may have eventually generated for them.”

In this regard, Espino stressed the exceptional nature of the program. “It is a one-time solution and it contemplates an event as exceptional as the pandemic,” the official stressed in conversation with Channel 5.

“The conditions that people must have to qualify for this solution is to have a debt of less than $100,000 exclusively for capital, without considering the interests and to be qualified in category 5, that is, to have the worst category of delay in the rating of the central banknow and in April 2022, which is when the pandemic ended,” he recalled.

On the other hand, he added that “those who owe between $5,000 and $100,000 have the possibility of financing the amount exclusively in capital for up to 36 months, without any type of financing interest or late payment, and they will not have any interest during the financing, meaning that it will be a number of equal installments.”

More than 22,000 have already accessed

Following the announcement of the program, more than 22,000 people of the more than 780,000 who make up the program’s target audience—debtors rated in category 5 or with unrecoverable debts institutions—had already restructured their unpaid commitments. And more than 170,000 had made inquiries in this regard.

The debt restructuring program for consumer credits It began at eight o’clock in the morning on Thursday last week, for now exclusively through the website soluciondeuda.com.uy; where information is also provided on the refinancing conditions and which institutions are participating in the initiative.

“This shows people’s willingness and desire to pay, but it also shows that this is an exceptional opportunity and that they have to take advantage of it. This opportunity will not be repeated, it is only once. This goes until November 15, if we were doing this all the time the incentive would be not to pay and that can never be the case,” he said. Through the program, those who meet the conditions for restructuring will be able to cancel their debts in installments and without counting the fines or surcharges that have been applied due to non-payment. Likewise, amounts less than 5,000 pesos could be completely condemned.
