Survived the war – and now 100 years old

Maria Huber was born in the village of Kohlgrube in 1922, trained as a tailor in Thomasroith and also practiced this profession. That she would get so old was anything but certain. Towards the end of the war, it narrowly escaped bombing.

Today the tidy lady already has more than a dozen great-great-grandchildren and has been living in Vöcklabrucker St. Klaraheim for several years, where she is well looked after.

The centenarian received prominent visitors for her birthday: Vöcklabruck’s mayor Peter Schobesberger (SPÖ) insisted on congratulating Maria Huber personally. “It’s impressive,” he says. “What this woman experienced makes every historian green with envy.” Schobesberger is pleased that Maria Huber is doing well in the retirement home. “For this I would like to thank the home management and the committed staff very much.”
