At 600 metres above sea level, Philipp Fuchs has fulfilled his childhood dream of owning his own winery. Here, the qualified sommelier cultivates a vineyard area of around one hectare and produces wines from particularly resistant grape varieties – the so-called PIWI grapes.
In order to make the currently little-known PIWI vines better known, an international wine competition is held every year, which was held this year in the Czech Republic. Among 200 PIWI wines from ten nations, Philipp Fuchs was able to achieve third place with 94 points with his wine “2023 Stuaschedl” made from the Blütenmuskateller grape, placing him among the international top field.
In its category, the wine from the Mühlviertel was actually the best Austrian wine in the entire field. The young winemaker was delighted with the high rating: “This is not only recognition for the work and passion that went into this wine. For me, the award also shows what is possible in Upper Austria, even in exposed locations.”
