Jair Bolsonaro was discharged

“Sign up now, thank you all,” Bolsonaro announced on his social networks showing a photo in the bed of patients surrounded by their doctors, inside the Vila Nova Star Hospital, in the city of São Paulo.

The announcement on social networks was made by the president himself, dressed in the club’s Juventus promotion shirt, from São Paulo.

The medical center did not immediately confirm the discharge information, but said Bolsonaro would soon hold a press conference “in the hospital cafeteria.”

In the medical report on Tuesday, doctors had reported that the president’s intestinal obstruction had reversed and that he was responding well to the liquid diet that was prescribed.

Bolsonaro, 66, who was stabbed in the abdomen during the 2018 presidential campaign, entered the hospital early Monday after presenting abdominal discomfort during his year-end vacation in Santa Catarina (south).

After being admitted, he posted a photo showing him with a nasal tube and said he was undergoing tests for “possible surgery.”

But after examining him and with an improvement in his condition, his doctor ruled out the need for surgery.

In the midst of a crisis in the medical care capacity of hospital guards and first aid rooms due to the explosion of flu and Covid-19 cases, Bolsonaro interrupted his vacation to enter Monday morning because had a bowel subocclusion.

His eldest son, the senator Flavio Bolsonaro, had anticipated on Tuesday that his father was close to being discharged, but assured that he will suffer the consequences of the stabbing for the rest of his life.

“Not only physical, but also psychological shock. He gives up many things, he has a permanent food restriction, he has to maintain a certain routine,” he told the international network CNN.

The new medical complication forced Bolsonaro to interrupt his vacation on the beach in Sao Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina state, where he had spent the New Year riding a jet ski and in an amusement park. When he began to feel bad, he was rushed to the Vila Nova Star Hospital, where he had last operated on.

The decision not to intervene surgically was made by the chief surgeon Antonio Luiz Macedo, the doctor who operated on Bolsonaro after the knife he received in 2018, who had to travel urgently from the Bahamas, where he was spending vacations.

Macedo arrived yesterday at the private medical center to rule out a new surgery.

Bolsonaro went into the middle of a political and economic climate marked by the electoral campaign for the October 2 elections, in which he appears in the polls more than 20 points away from the favorite, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, of the Workers Party.
