The 16-year-old canoeist Tim Briedl from SV Forelle Teefix Steyr is already preparing to follow in the footsteps of his father Günther, multiple national champion in whitewater and flatwater. At the weekend, the student from HTL Steyr (mechatronics) won the Austrian junior title in the whitewater sprint for the second time on the Mur in St. Rupprecht. As a bonus, he won gold in the regatta for the first time. In the men’s national championship race, he achieved 3rd place in the sprint and 4th place in the regatta. This gave him bronze in the overall sprint ranking for the first time.
In a week, the young Dietacher will be moving back to flat water. Not only are the national championships on the agenda in Ottensheim, but Briedl also has an impressive haul of four gold and one silver medals in the youth category from last year to defend. He will be competing in the single kayak over 200, 500 and 1000 meters.
