President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the law “On the genocide of the Belarusian people”. This was reported on January 5 by BelTA with reference to the press service of the head of state.
The document provides for the legal recognition of the genocide of the Belarusian people, committed by Nazi criminals and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period (until 1951). The people of Belarus are understood as all citizens who lived on the territory of the republic in those years.
It also establishes criminal liability for public denial of the genocide of the Belarusian people. The implementation of the law will contribute to the inadmissibility of distorting the results of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the cohesion of the Belarusian society.
In November, it became known that Belarus and Russia would form an international investigation team to investigate the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian population during the Great Patriotic War.
On October 29, it was reported that the Investigative Committee of Russia would help colleagues from Belarus in the investigation of the case of the genocide of the Soviet peoples. The Russian department pointed out that not all the Nazis were convicted by the international military tribunal in Nuremberg and other post-war trials, and many criminals managed to escape from justice and escape punishment.
On September 28, it became known that the need to preserve the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War will be enshrined in the new constitution of Belarus.
