The agreement with the US is a new opportunity to position Uruguay as an innovation hub

Uruguay Innovation Hub highlighted the importance of the country’s participation in the launch of the Investors Network of the Americas, within the framework of APEP.

Uruguay and USA They launched an investment network for emerging entrepreneurs Latin America, within the framework of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity in the Americas (APEP)for its acronym in English). In this regard, from Uruguay Innovation Hub They highlighted in a widely favorable way for entrepreneurs in the local technology sector the agreement signed in Washington. The agency will immediately begin contacting developers with investment funds.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Paganini, along with the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, and the administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, participated this week in the launch of the Investors Network of the Americasan innovative initiative that has the support of Endeavor Miami and IDB Lab, designed to mobilize early-stage investments for innovative entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This initiative aims to close the funding gap faced by many startups, driving economic development and empowering innovative entrepreneurs throughout the region.

“On the one hand, this is a new opportunity to position our country as a hub for innovation and technology. The fact of co-leading this entrepreneurship working group with USA and Canada puts the sights on Uruguay. On the other hand, and this is what is interesting for Uruguay Innovation Hubpresents us with the challenge of making Uruguayan startups and entrepreneurs visible so that these funds and angel investors can invest in them. To do this, we are deploying a series of activities that include ‘matchmaking’ events, investor training and a digital platform where curated startups from the region, including Uruguayan ones, are visible to be invested in,” he told Ambit the person responsible for business development and strategic alliances of Uruguay Innovation Hub, Inés Bonicelli.

The head of state said that the commitment is to deploy investments in the region over the next five years. The investment network will have an initial commitment of up to 1 billion dollars.

“Our collaboration in this initiative through Uruguay Innovation Hub “It underlines our commitment to foster entrepreneurship and economic development in Latin America. We believe that this network will serve as a catalyst for new companies to thrive and expand into international markets, including the United States, thereby enhancing economic security and stability throughout the region,” said Foreign Minister Paganini during the presentation of the investment network.

“In APEP, only two countries are developed economies: the United States and Canada. And we all agree that there is a key aspect to promote economic growth: trade integration and the flow of investments. That is why we call, once again, for APEP to have a vigorous focus on trade, with the aim of making Latin America part of the global value chains, in which we are unfortunately very weakly present,” said the minister.
