Germany will have a ministerial delegate for the queer cause

The environmental deputy Sven LehmannThe 42-year-old will have to prepare a “national action plan” for Germany to become “a pioneering country in the fight against discrimination,” announced the Ministry of the Family.

The new delegate will occupy the position within the government of Olaf Scholz, which took over from conservative Angela Merkel in December and brings together social democrats, liberals and environmentalists.

Between 2018 and 2021, Lehmann was a queer spokesperson for the environmental parliamentary group.

“The protection of people based on their sexual and gender identity has to be guaranteed by the Constitution,” Lehmann said after his appointment.

The Anglo-Saxon term queer takes into account the set of sexual and gender identities that differ from heterosexuality.

At the end of September, two transsexual women – Tessa Ganserer and Nyke Slawik – were elected deputies in the Bundestag, the German Parliament.
