The Romanian citizens are suspected of stealing cash and jewelry from houses and apartments. After lengthy investigations, they were arrested by the Upper Austrian police in Lower Austria.

On Wednesday, the car linked to various crimes was located in Linz. Four Romanians were then placed under surveillance by the police. The next day, the suspects set off for Spitz in the Wachau region with a one-year-old and a two-year-old child. The two women, aged 23 and 32, tried to get into several houses there. But because all the doors were locked, the gang of thieves drove on to Statzendorf in the St. Pölten district. The observing police officers followed them unnoticed. While the two men, aged 22 and 36, waited in a parking lot with the small children, the women tried to get into houses and apartments again.

Cash stolen from bedroom

The women eventually made it into an apartment in an apartment building – they stole a large amount of money from the bedroom. The residents were at home watching TV, according to the police. In the hallway of a single-family home, where the women wanted to strike next, they were finally arrested by the officers.

The stolen money was found on the Romanians. The men waiting outside were also arrested. A large amount of cash was also found on them, according to the police. “In total, it is a sum of around 15,000 euros,” said the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office in response to an inquiry from the OÖN. However, the total amount of money found on the Romanians has not yet been determined.

The two women confessed. They stated that they had traveled to Austria for two months in May and June of this year and again in early July. According to the police, the two men have “partially confessed”.

After consultation with the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office, the two women and their two children were taken to Krems Prison and the men to St. Pölten Prison.
