When the man (60) stopped and got out to get a water bottle from the trunk, the passenger simply got into the driver’s seat and drove away. Since the taxi driver’s cell phone was in the car, he could not immediately inform the police.

According to the Bavarian police, the drunken men drove across the border into Germany, where shortly before 4 a.m. in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden they went too far to the left on a bend and hit a wooden guardrail. The automatic emergency call system “eCall” in the car alerted the operations center in Rosenheim, Bavaria. A patrol was able to find the taxi at the scene of the accident, but no passengers. Shortly afterwards, however, firefighters discovered a slightly injured man behind a pile of wood, and a little later the second man at a bus stop.
Camera recorded everything
Both were uncooperative and did not provide any information. The taxi theft only became known after clarification with the police in Austria. A camera inside the taxi clearly identified both men. The damage to the car is estimated to be around 10,000 euros. Both men – they live in Germany – were reported and released. They will now have to answer for a number of crimes in both countries.
