The Russian Foreign Ministry told about the expectations from the negotiations on security guarantees

Moscow is counting on a fairly quick result in negotiations with Western representatives on security guarantees. However, how fast progress is possible will become clear after a series of consultations scheduled over the next week with the US, NATO and the OSCE. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.

“We will hold the first orientation event next week, explain the logic of our approach and fix the elements, without which it is impossible to speak at all about any productive process. The main thing for us in the current segment is to deal with the position of our opponents. So far we have heard from the United States, NATO and other countries only the most general, rather abstract comments in the spirit that something is acceptable, something is unacceptable, but the main thing is dialogue, and it is also important that Russia de-escalate. In this approach, there are very few rational seeds due to what we have talked about many times, namely, the non-stop, extremely intensive military and geopolitical development by NATO of the territory near our borders and the appearance of appropriate weapons systems there, the intensification of exercises, and so on. The security situation has changed dramatically for us, so there is a need to urgently launch this process in accordance with the instructions of the president, ”the diplomat explained.

Meanwhile, a series of consultations will take place next week between Moscow and Western partners. On January 10, talks will be held with the United States in Geneva, on January 12 – with NATO, on January 13 – within the framework of the OSCE.
