Last week, days before the commemoration of the 30 years since the AMIA attackthe President’s Office reported on the declaration of Hamas as “international terrorist organization“Hamas has claimed responsibility for the atrocities committed during its attack on Israel on 7 October. These are in addition to a long history of terrorist attacks in its name,” the official statement said.

In another passage of the text, it was recalled that “in recent years, its links with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been revealed, whose leadership was found responsible for the attacks against the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires and against the AMIA by the Federal Criminal Court of Appeals on April 11. These attacks cost the lives of more than 100 Argentine citizens.”
“President Javier Milei has an unwavering commitment to recognize terrorists for what they are. This is the first time that there is political will to do so. (…) This Government has repeatedly reiterated its conviction that Argentina should once again align itself with Western civilization, respectful of individual rights and its institutions. For this reason, it is unacceptable that those who attack it should not be declared as what they are: terrorists,” it was added at that time.
Netanyahu’s message of thanks follows the president’s official statement Isaac Herzog. “Thank you Argentina, thank you Mr. President. “You are a true friend of Israel,” said the Israeli president in relation to his Argentine counterpart, adding that this decision demonstrates “leadership and moral clarity” towards all the countries of Latin America and the world.
Iran’s messages to Argentina
Last week, after the official announcement regarding Hamas and Milei’s speech at the World Jewish Congress, two statements from Iran against the government became known. The first, with a threatening tone, was published in an editorial in the Tehran Times, official organ of the Guardians of the Revolution, which claims that Iran will make Argentina “regret its enmity.”
The second was a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry that described Argentina’s accusations about the involvement of Iranian citizens in the AMIA attack as unfounded. “The discovery of the truth and the definitive solution of this case is only possible if the parties involved in Argentina distance themselves from political interests and are not affected by the influence and intervention of third parties“We are deeply concerned about the situation in Iran,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said in a statement issued on Saturday, according to IRNA.
