So far, there is no understanding when a face-to-face meeting between Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden may take place, since the summit should be preceded by serious preparatory work and the implementation of the instructions of the presidents of Russia and the United States, given after two intensive discussions of the entire range of issues over the past few weeks. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.
“Without understanding what will happen at our level, it is difficult to even guess when the next contact of the leaders may take place. We must thoroughly work out everything in accordance with the instructions, submit reports to our leadership. I do not presume to name at this stage even some tentative time frames for what may happen next at the level of foreign ministers, along the lines of other involved departments and their leaders. Without this, it is simply impossible to talk about the summit, ”the diplomat explained.
Earlier in late December, Joe Biden, when asked by journalists, did not rule out a possible meeting with Vladimir Putin in January.
Meanwhile, a series of consultations will take place next week between Moscow and Western partners. On January 10, negotiations with the United States will be held in Geneva, on January 12 – with NATO, on January 13 – within the framework of the OSCE
